Krewe of Boo 2019

Krewe of Boo 2019 almost didn’t happen, cancelled midday because of the recent building collapse downtown and a planned demolition attempt. But “Chief Spookster” Brian Kern’s annual Halloween parade rolled as scheduled on a gorgeous 75 degree Saturday evening through thick crowds with many wearing costumes.

Spooky floats were separated by marching bands and parade groups including Krewe des Fleurs, Sirens, Mande Milkshakers, Krewe of Rolling Elvi, 610 Stompers and my dance krewe – the Pussyfooters! Apparently the Amelia EarHawts, who were all zombie flight attendants, carried a poster for the movie Flight of the Living Dead. I’m sorry I never saw the poster since I was the queen zombie in that fun film and would’ve loved a group photo.

I love seeing our city from inside a parade, and Boo’s costumed crowd makes for an even more festive and colorful view. The kids are my favorite – tiny Ninja Turtles and Raggedy Anns, smiling and waving. My candy corn costume was a big hit with the little ones and sparked debates among lovers and haters of the seasonal confection. But even those who weren’t fond of the candy seemed to enjoy my costume, especially the hat I spent 3 days making. Well worth it to see so many smiles.
