The last Wednesday of Carnival is the kickoff to 7 straight days of parades – ending with Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras). The weather was phenomenal – 75 and balmy – for The Krewe of Ancient Druids parade. Druids was founded in 1998 and honors the Celtic priests who acted as mediators between people and their gods and nature. There are only 200 masked, Merlin-capped riders in the krewe and secrecy shrouds their membership.
We enjoyed the bands, the Baby Dolls, and dancing to YMCA. The kids (and young at heart) around us particularly loved the brightly glowing light sabers some Druids handed out.
Next up – Muses Thursday is known as Thersday around here to honor the female Krewe of Muses parade – where I’ll be dancing with my Pussyfooters sisters!
