Saints at the Dome and Brass Bands Everywhere

Even before going to the Superdome to watch the Saints crush the Colts 62-7, I was having one of those great weekends you can only have in this glorious city. Saturday, I came across 2 brass bands in Jackson Square, including the Storyville Stompers leading a parade. People costumed as storybook characters carried a banner honoring “Jim and Terra’s Parade through the Quarter” from Wishes, Wonders and Who Dats. Continue reading

Saints Nostalgia at the Dome

Tonight, I went to the final pre-season Saints game at the Superdome. We lost and everyone took it in stride. I’d had a great night running into friends, meeting nice people and getting a big hug from keyboardist extraordinaire, John Gros. I even met a girl who’d moved here from Los Angeles after only vacationing in the city 2 times. The “Ordinary Men with Extraordinary Moves,” 610 Stompers, took the field for the halftime show, performing 3 dances including crowd favorite, their original Halftime (Stand Up & Get Crunk!) routine. But, my partner in “Who Datting,” a native New Orleanian named Andy, had a much more nostalgic evening. Continue reading
