Bonerama At Harvest the Music

Another Wednesday, another great free concert in Lafayette Square. The Harvest the Music concert started with a set from Alvin Youngblood Hart’s Muscle Theory. Known as a “musician’s musician,” Alvin Youngblood Hart was nominated for a Grammy in 2003 before winning one in 2004 for his work on Beautiful Dreamer: The songs of Stephen Foster. In 2006,  he tutored  Samuel L. Jackson for his part in Black Snake Moan and recorded a soundtrack duet with Christina Ricci. Continue reading

Oyster Fest 2011 – Day 1

The second annual Oyster Fest had plenty of improvements over last year’s premiere but the same nagging problem at its core – who holds a raw seafood fest on blacktop in 95 degree weather? Organizers provided the misting tent so popular last year and added several tented areas for eating at tables in the shade. Continue reading

I’m getting Hornets Fever

When I arrived in New Orleans, the Saints were undefeated. They went on to win the Super Bowl. Now, the Hornets are 5 and 0 against some of the toughest teams in the league. Tonight, they beat the Miami Heat, a team made entirely of all-stars, 4 of whom have Olympic medals. Continue reading

Halloween and the Saints – Boo Dat!

Apparently, Halloween is the third largest holiday in New Orleans, but don’t quote me on that as I got the info from a bartender finishing his shift at Rawhide, not the Guinness World Book of Records. But Guinness was here to count how many people wore costumes to the Saints game Sunday. With almost 18,000 people in costumes – mostly black and gold, we set the record for the largest costume party. Continue reading

The Radiators at Harvest Wednesday

The Radiators played this week’s Harvest the Music at Lafayette Square benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank.

http://harvestthemusic.org

I started my day with a short walk to La Divina’s for a wonderful gelato. It was hard to narrow down from the great choices but I decided to let the Autumn spirit overtake me and selected sweet potato pie to pair with my standard chocolate Azteca. Continue reading

Harvest Wednesday with Cowboy Mouth (lots of photos)

Harvest the Music benefits Second Harvest Food Bank and is a free weekly event at Lafayette Square every Wednesday at 5 pm through November 3rd.

http://harvestthemusic.org

I’ll be honest, not every Wednesday concert is my favorite cup of tea, but they’re always fun. I always get to run into people I know. I’m always free to dance if I care to (and I often do). There are always colorful characters in the crowd. And there’s always great food and drink. And the music’a always good even when it’s not what moves me. Continue reading
