Saints From On The Field!

When I moved to New Orleans in 2009, the Saints were on their way to the Super Bowl. It was a magical time to be a Saints fan as the whole Who Dat Nation seemed lifted by team spirit. Though I saw the team in the Victory Parade and Drew Brees rode as the King of Bacchus in their parade, I never actually saw the Saints play in the Dome that season. From the next season on, I’ve attended most home games and in 2014, we became season ticket holders. This year started off on a whole new level – ground level. My husband won 3 of the 4 fantasy football leagues he entered and among the many prizes he won were field passes for the preseason game against the Patriots.  Continue reading

Oyster Fest 2011 – Day 1

The second annual Oyster Fest had plenty of improvements over last year’s premiere but the same nagging problem at its core – who holds a raw seafood fest on blacktop in 95 degree weather? Organizers provided the misting tent so popular last year and added several tented areas for eating at tables in the shade. Continue reading

Street Legal and the French Quarter

First, I got a Louisiana State driver’s license and registered to vote. Then, I registered my car in the state. But, I wasn’t done yet. In L.A., we had to get a smog check once a year. In New Orleans, you’re not road ready until you get a “brake tag.” People take the brake tag very seriously. So seriously that the woman at the DMV told me not to put on my new plate until I had the brake tag. Everyone made it sound like a very serious test. Many had pointers. Continue reading

Family Tree

Like many children of divorce, I spent most of my childhood with my mother, so, although both sides of my family are from Louisiana, I’d really only met one half. Sure, I knew my father’s mother and siblings and their children, but that was it. Last weekend, my father and brother flew into town and we all headed to Baton Rouge for a weekend of seafood and family.
